Bible Standards

As a Bible-believing mission, The Christian Discipleship Center maintains an evangelical position with regards to the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. It is non-denominational in its affiliation.
Believing God has raised up this ministry to be Christ-centered and Bible-based, the Christian Discipleship Center offers a compassionate view of personal responsibility to help people experience God’s victory over dependence upon alcohol or drugs. CDC does not hold to the disease model of addiction, but our program instructs and counsels struggling Christians to believe and apply the spiritual principles in the Scriptures so God can transform their lives with His sanctifying power!

As a cross-cultural ministry, the Christian Discipleship Center also belongs to the Association of North American Missions. For many years ANAM has served as a voice for organizations such as ours, and it provides accountability to the Christian public that its members follow sound principles of ministry and financial ethics. Its regional meetings are especially helpful for fellowship and mutual encouragement.

Because of our location near the Four Corners and the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Christian Discipleship Center also belongs to the Western Navajo Bible Fellowship.  This is a group of Native leaders, churches and organizations with regular meetings.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

        1. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
        Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Timothy 2:5-6

        2. We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original manuscripts, and is the final authority for faith and life.
        Psalm 119:89, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21

        3. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth and substitutionary death, in His resurrection and ascension to heaven, and in His personal, imminent and visible return to earth.
        Matthew 1:18-25, John 14:1-3, Acts 1:9-11, I Corinthians 15:1-5, Colossians 1:15-20, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

        4. We believe in the fall and total depravity of man and his need for regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation.
        John 3:1-6, Romans 3:9-12,23; 5:12,19, Titus 3:5-7

        5. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ, apart from works, and that all who believe in Him receive forgiveness of sins, the righteousness of Christ, and the gift of eternal life.
        John 3:16; 5:24, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9

        6. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all mankind, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in Heaven, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the unsaved in Hell.
        John 5:28-29, 1 Corinthians 15:51-58, 2 Corinthians 5:6-8, Revelation 20:11-15

BIBLICAL MODEL OF ALCOHOLISM TREATMENT

Historically alcoholism was treated as a behavioral disorder.  Then it was changed to a medical model in which alcoholism was regarded as a progressive disease.  In the Bible God reveals truths about human nature that form the basis for the Biblical model of alcoholism treatment.
First of all, we were created with the capacity for free will and are responsible for the choices and actions we make.  Secondly, the Bible reveals that we have inherited a sinful nature that leads us to seek satisfaction and fulfillment in other things besides God.

Intoxication is listed in the Bible as one of those pursuits that brings both pleasure and serious consequences for those involved in abusive drinking.  Jesus Christ Himself said in John 8:34 that when people repeat sinful activities over a period of time, they will come into bondage to those wrongful habits.  This reveals that the spiritual dimension is the most significant factor behind the loss of control and dependency experienced in the course of a developing addiction.

God’s answer to alcoholism and other addictions is the spiritual freedom that God offers us through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  He said in John 8:36, “If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!”  So, a personal relationship to God through the work of His Son Jesus Christ is the beginning, not just of recovery, but of a new life.  God’s full forgiveness is the most powerful way to free someone of the guilt, shame and alienation that have accompanied their years of addiction and destructive behavior.

Although we teach educational aspects of addiction and offer helpful nutrition and exercise in a comprehensive program, our focus is on what God can accomplish in the life of everyone who begins his spiritual journey as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and as a member of the body of Christ.  We teach Biblical principles for overcoming destructive habits and for rebuilding character.  Personal counseling sessions enable program participants to deal with issues specific to their own backgrounds and experiences.  Our loving staff create a healing “family” community where healthy relationships are modeled.  The three month program gives each participant hope and the opportunity to practice truth and godly living that pleases God and transforms their life.
